Ottawa - The CEP marked the twentieth anniversary of the Humanity Fund with a renewed commitment to grow the fund. Since then, thousands of CEP members in more than 100 local unions have negotiated a small, tax deductible contribution of a penny per hour worked into the Humanity Fund into their collective agreements ($20 per year). In many cases, matching employer contributions have also been negotiated. The CEP National Executive Board is seeking the widest possible participation of our members in the Humanity Fund. They endorsed the Humanity Fund as a national bargaining objective and established a goal of having all CEP members and locals participate in the Humanity Fund. CEP President Dave Coles said: "As a union, we know that Decent Work is the only sustainable way out of poverty and is fundamental to building equitable development, democracy and social cohesion, so in a world where employers and governments are pursuing an agenda of globalization that places corporate profits ahead of the interests of working people, their families, their communities and the environment, the CEP Humanity Fund has become an important component of our agenda of social change".
